About Trebinje

Trebinje is a city located in the southernmost part of Republika Srpska and BiH, in the hinterland of the southern Adriatic. Trebinje is a city that has retained the spirit of the past because it bears spiritual and material traces of the two empires that ruled it – the Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian empires. The special appearance of this city and its surroundings is contributed by the Mediterranean climate, which enables the cultivation of crops such as vines and early vegetables and fruits as indispensable ingredients of the original Herzegovinian table.

Tourists are particularly attracted to the city center with Mediterranean-style buildings and a complex of hundred-year-old plane trees under whose crowns is a summer garden unique in the area of the former Yugoslavia. The square, the oldest green market in Republika Srpska, is located in the immediate vicinity, where traditional agricultural and food products from the Trebinje region are sold every day. In Trebinje and its surroundings there are famous orthodox monasteries from the medieval period, such as Monastery of St. Vasilije, Tvrdoš, Monsatery of St. Peter and Paul, Duži and Zavala.

The landscape of Herzegovina is one of the most beautiful on the entire Balkan Peninsula. Mountains, rivers, lakes, flora and fauna enchant every visitor. Of the natural phenomena, we can mention Vjetrenica, the most famous cave in Bosnia and Herzegovina, olm or proteus, the only amphibian in Europe that lives in caves, and the Trebišnjica river, once the largest sinking river in Europe.
The beautiful landscapes of Trebinje and its surroundings offer all nature lovers the opportunity to experience adventure through paragliding, hiking, cycling, diving, canoeing and photo safaris.
